The Introduction to Carbines (M4/AR-15) is a 3 hour firearms training course designed to instruct basic knowledge, skills and tactics associated with owning and operating the Carbine safely; includes: eye & ear protection, carbine & target
This course is designed for the person with little to no knowledge of the Carbine or the shooter that has never attended any formal training on the Carbine and needs a refresher. This course is also beneficial for the shooter having trouble keeping consistent shots on target and needs to go back to basics.
This course utilizes both classroom instruction and range time. The one on one (or max 3 students per instructor) instruction enables high information retention from the shooter.
The range portion of this course instructs on how to properly attain a zero on the Carbine utilizing proper “sight-package” trigger-control and breathing. It also covers the basic shooting positions and ready positions. Basic magazine changes and gear placement.
60 rounds of 5.56 or 223 ammunition. Semi-Automatic, magazine fed, iron-sighted Carbine with a sling. Three M4 magazines. Belt with M4 belt magazine holders and/or chest rig. Carbine can be provided Note: Ammunition and equipment can be purchased at the range for range shooting portion of the course.

The intent of this course is to teach the student basic individual tactics and the use of the carbine in close range, defensive scenarios. This two consecutive days course incorporates basic aspects of combat shooting with multiple weapons employment. The individual will learn marksmanship fundamentals and various shooting positions coupled with reload drills and basic firearms transition drills. The curriculum will include, but is not limited to:
Semiautomatic, magazine-fed, iron-sighted Carbine with sling (low power optics acceptable and recommended); 700 rounds of ammunition minimum (no steel core ammunition); 3 Carbine magazines (minimum); Handgun with 200 rounds and holster gear; Knee and elbow pads; Hearing and eye protection
You must be familiar and comfortable with your handgun. If you have never shot before or wonder how your gun works this class is not for you. If you feel you do not pass this prerequisite, join the Basic Defensive Handgun before progressing to this class.

The intent of this 8 hour course is to teach the student the use of the shotgun in close-range scenarios as encountered in self-defense situations.
Pump or semiautomatic shotgun with sling; Hearing and eye protection; A minimum of 25 rounds of Bird Shot and 10 rounds of Buck Shot.

The Academy at DFW Gun offers introductory Precision Rifle Marksmanship, a two consecutive day, sixteen total hour course. Precision Rifle Marksmanship provides techniques by focusing on long range engagements. Students will be exposed to the field-craft that will create a solid foundation for a proficient marksman. Students will be given the knowledge needed in order to continually deliver constant and accurate rates of fire on selected targets regardless of range or firing position. At the conclusion of this course, the student will develop skills that will increase their speed, accuracy, and confidence in marksmanship at long range engagements.
Carbine with 50 rounds of ammunition, safety glasses, data book and hearing protection for use during range qualification. Students are also required to bring note taking material for classroom lectures. *Note: the use of electronic optics are prohibited during this course.
